Autism spectrum disorder is a collective term for various forms of autism or autism-like conditions, each with slightly different characteristics and symptoms. Not so long ago, different developmental disorders were distinguished for diagnostic purposes. Nowadays, this distinction is made much less often and the general term autism spectrum disorder is used (Hodges H, 2020).
